Hello Kitty Souvenir Stamps: Celebrating Taiwan's Culture and Philately

So as to raise interest in philately among youths, Chunghwa Post has selected Hello Kitty, a cartoon figure much loved by the young, as a topic for two souvenir sheets. Each souvenir sheet will include two stamps, one with a denomination of NT$5 and the other with a denomination of NT$15. With its red bow, cuddly Hello Kitty was born on November 1, 1974. The trademark was extended to use on products of all kinds, which the public greeted with great love and enthusiasm, and the cute cartoon figure would serve as a bridge of communication between people. For thirty years Hello Kitty’s appeal has transcended ethnic and national boundaries and has acted as an angel of peace around the world, providing much happiness and fantasy during people’s childhoods.The designs are explained below:(1) Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel (her boyfriend) are dating on Fisherman’s Wharf in Danshuei, both enjoying the sunset and feeding the birdies. The design demonstrates Taiwan’s beautiful scenery and opportunities for leisure.(2) The Taipei 101 Building is a symbol of Taiwan’s economic success. Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel, amid the hubbub of the modern metropolis, are joyfully taking a coffee break from their busy schedules. The stamp is a realistic depiction of the lives of modern urban people.
